A Phallus With Big Beefy Arms

Australian grab bag

13 April, 2023 | Sydney, Australia

This will be the last Australia post! There was a bunch of misc sights/activities that didn’t warrant an entire thing, so here’s a brief look at them.

First a pub crawl/bar tour. I mostly don’t do these - I’m usually not a huge drinker - but this promised some parts of The Rocks (previously mentioned here) that I hadn’t seen before.

We went to an “American” themed bar first and I can’t express how proud I am of all of us. That’s again 5/5 cities with ACAB or some variant - undefeated.

I didn’t get good pictures of the rest of the venues, but I was most taken with the bar that was in a like 150 year old basement and a place that almost exclusively served drinks that were distilled with local ingredients - I had a very odd but tasty negroni.

A few more odds and ends.

Meanwhile, as Seattle builds another highway on top of another highway on the waterfront. A sincere “eat shit” from me to you, @waterfrontSEA
Finally some street art. I’ve been jonesing since leaving Valpo.
Electric bikes were uncommon except in the case of food delivery, where they were endemic.
Dropped in on the local Bad Movie Night group. This was hosted in a local community library which has a theatre which is awesome. Loving Australian libraries. I don’t know why they showed this thought it’s a flawless movie.
My sincere apologies for not including this in my Reasonably Calculated Lesbianism post about the Pride (R)evolution exhibit in the State Library of New South Wales.
Finally, part of the safety information on my flight to Tokyo that is more fun absent context.

Finally, I almost forgot to mention that Australia was once living under a “squattocracy”, which is a thing that was basically fine in the past when it is increasing rich farmers claiming Aboriginal lands, but obviously a big problem when you are talking about landless agricultural laborers grabbing unused land from wealthy landowners in Brazil today.1

That’s it! Next post will be about my first night in Tokyo.

  1. Not that this is likely to end well, which is why I am a bigger fan of land reform as described in a previous post on some (partially kept) cool promises by the Mexican constitution.
